Mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be placed in conservatorship by the Federal Government as soon as the end of this week.
The Government plans to guarantee their debt, fire top executives and their boards in a historic bail out move. Shareholders are expected to lose most of their money.
The plan will become public before Asian financial markets open on Sunday.
